The Federal Police said that Constable Ashenafi Dessalegn who received severe injury from a hand grenade thrown during the recent riot in Addis died Tuesday.
Constable Ashenafi sustained the injury on November 2, 2005 from a handgrenade thrown by rioters in an area locally known as 'Asefa Megazen while he was on duty to disperse rioters.
Born to Dessalegn Basore and Gete Masebo in Badwoche woreda in Hadiya zone of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples State in 1972EC, the late Constable Ashenafi attended primary and secondary education in Shone primary School and Shone Secondary School, respectively.
Constable Ashenafi received police and riot dispersing training for 11 months at the Kolfe Federal Police Training Centre here in the metropolis.
The late Constable Ashenafi was reputed to his discipline, friendliness and competence.
The late Constable Ashenafi was admitted to the Emergency Ward of the Federal Police Referral Hospital and tended for 20 days before passing away on Tuesday November 22, 2005.
The late Constable Ashenafi was a second-year Information Technology student at the Kunuz College.
Executives and members of the Federal Police Crime Prevention Main Department, Riot Dispersing Main Department and other colleagues expressed deep condolence to the bereaved family.
